Still here...
So today is something of an event - for the first time in far too long I've actually been able to post fic here! :) I wrote Chain Reaction as a pinch hit for the 5th mcshep_match and *loved* the whole experience. It had been over a year since I'd last written anything and I can't tell you how lovely it was to write the boys again! ♥

Like many of you, telling stories is an integral part of who I am. Discovering fanfic and LJ was something of a revelation for me -- for the first time I could actually write my stories down and share them instead of keeping them locked up in my head. I've loved participating in fandom - reading, writing and sharing stories. Since the birth of my daughter, time has been at a real premium. Juggling motherhood and my job has left precious little time and for far too long my stories have been locked up in my head once more. Having rediscovered just how much fun it is to set them free, I am going to *make* time for writing, even if it just a few hundred words a couple of days a week.

I've known for a while that many fanfic writers have crossed over into pro fic. That's not something I ever really considered to any serious degree - insecurity being the main issue. I've watched with pleasure as sgamadison's pro writer career has taken off. I'm sure you'll all agree that she is a fantastic author who deserves to be published. I was checking out some of her work and poking around one of the publisher's websites when I happened upon a call for submissions for a m/m anthology to be titled 'Higher Learning'. As I'm sure most of you know, I work at a university and love getting a bit of science into my fics. As such, I couldn't resist sending in a short story in response to the call. As soon as I hit the 'send' button I wished I could recall it -- I'd basically send 4K of math porn to some random publisher and I was so embarrassed!! To my surprise and delight, the short story was accepted... I was gobsmacked.

So, if any of you are interested, I have a short story in the Higher Learning anthology. My pen name is Claire Russett. I received my print copies of the anthology yesterday and they are *gorgeous*. I have to admit that I might have stroked them lovingly for a bit before putting them in my bookshelf. :) I'm not a fast writer and, like I said, time is precious at the moment, but I do want to keep writing. Fingers crossed, more fanfic and the odd pro short story will be in my future. I'll keep you posted...!

Okay, you had me at 'math porn'. *GLEE*

I have the anthology downloaded--I am charging the Nook now! I'm going to pass the word along as well because I am so excited for you.

*blushes* Seriously, it's not that great. PWP all the way. I mean, don't expect plot or anything. Also, if the characters happen to remind you of anyone, I can't possibly imagine who...! ;) cep xxx

PWP is *exactly* what they wanted for the anthology and what the readers expect--remind me to tell you privately what the average acceptance rate for a 'new' author is for one of these things--I have as yet to have a story accepted for an anthology!

Math porn AND familiar characters? *rubs hands gleefully* I can't wait!

I'm glad you had time to write for Mcshep_match - and a long one too! I love your stories with a strong tech side - because you know the subject matter, it's always easy to understand instead of just 'hand-wavy'. :)

Math porn hum? :) I'll have to add that to my list for next time I save up for some ebooks.

I really did enjoy it! And, yeah, I wasn't expecting to write anything particularly long, but the story kinda got away from me... In a good way, of course! :) It had been far too long since I'd written anything & I hadn't realised how much I'd missed it.

As for the math porn - it's pwp all the way with characters that I suspect might be fairly recognisable... I do hope to work up to something with a bit more substance. ;)

I was *so* nervous sending it off I nearly didn't do it. Then I was desperate to call it back and had to basically shut it off from my mind completely so I wouldn't stress about it constantly. I was utterly gobsmacked when I got the email saying they'd accepted it. Seriously though, it's nothing special -- just a pwp with characters who are probably fairly recognisable... :) Hopefully, I can work up to something with a bit more substance in time.

Thank you! It's really not that great writing-wise - just a short pwp. It is very cool to see it in print, though. :) cep xxx

Congratulations on the anthology! \o/
How exciting! I'm so happy for you.

(Sorry. I'm ridiculously behind on my reading but 'Chain Reaction' is at the top of my list!)

Thank you! I was ridiculously nervous about sending it off and then completely gobsmacked when I got the email saying it had been accepted. Seriously though, it's just a short pwp, so hopefully I can work up to something a bit more substantial. Still, very cool to see my name (well, sort of my name) in print! :)

Thank you! It was a nerve-wracking experience and I still can't quite believe it. Writing-wise it was nothing special, just a short pwp, but it is very cool to see it in actual print. :) cep xxx
